BOS Power has signed a new contract with Fjellstrand Shipyard to convert the tourist vessel Geirangerfjord II from diesel to fully electric propulsion for Geiranger Fjordservice. This project reinforces BOS Power’s position as a leading system integrator for advanced maritime electrification solutions.
The conversion illustrates how existing vessels can be transformed through sustainable retrofit approaches, offering a cost‑efficient and environmentally responsible alternative to newbuilds. By reusing the hull and integrating state‑of‑the‑art zero‑emission technology, the project significantly reduces environmental impact and resource consumption.
Close cooperation between the shipyard, the operator, and BOS Power has been key to developing a solution that meets high standards for safety, performance, and long‑term reliability. BOS Power delivers a complete electric propulsion package, including a battery system, Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for rapid turnaround charging, and the company’s proprietary MOVEe Power and Energy Management System (PEMS). Together, these technologies ensure optimal energy utilization, efficient load balancing, and stable operational performance.
Once completed, Geirangerfjord II will operate with zero emissions and significantly reduced noise levels—enhancing the passenger experience in the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Geirangerfjord. The project demonstrates how electrification of existing vessels can play a major role in advancing circular economy principles and accelerating the maritime industry’s transition toward sustainable operations.
Delivery is scheduled for Q4 2026.
