Siem Offshore with propulsion solutions from BOS Power

The Siem Aimery and the Siem Moxie are fully occupied laying cables in the North Sea. Bos Power has supplied the ships with reliable solutions.

In 2013, BOS Power (former Bostek) signed a contract to supply a main generator set and technical equipment to the cable-laying ship Siem Aimery.  The ship, which was built in Poland and launched in 2016, is now in full operation with technology from BOS power on board.

The Aimery’s support ship, the Siem Moxie, also has equipment from BOS Power on board. The support ship was built in 2014 at Fjellstrand Verft in Hardanger.

“We supplied a number of propulsion solutions to the ships, which have been fully occupied with work since delivery,” says Peter H. Kahrs, Sales Director at BOS Power.

FOUR GENERATOR SETS

BOS Power’s supplies included electric propulsion and technical solutions for the ships.

The biggest supply from BOS Power is the main generator sets. Four main generators were supplied for each ship. The generators can produce 1766 kW electric power for propulsion. Each of the generator sets is driven by MTU motor type 16V 4000 M23S.

“This is something we often supply to various ships, and we were sure that it would function technically as intended, including on board these ships,” says Kahrs.

Satisfied operator

The ships are now operated by the German company Siem Offshore Contractors GmbH, which is wholly owned by Siem Offshore in Kristiansand. The operating manager praises BOS Power for the work done on board the Aimery.

“Installation and testing of equipment were on schedule.
Reliable generators are the most important components on board. The Siem Aimery is a very advanced cable-laying vessel that has been in uninterrupted operation since May 2016.”

Would you recommend Bostek to other operators?

“Yes,” says ship manager Curt Tronstad, who is very satisfied with the services supplied by BOS Power.

Reliable operation

BOS Power is pleased with this positive assessment. They know what is at stake for clients. With advanced, cost-intensive projects, the technology has to work.

“We supplied not only generator sets to the Aimery and the Moxie,” says Kahrs.

He reels off: “Systems that ensure equal load on the generators, silencers for motors, air starters, cooling and monitoring of motor functions were also in the supply.”

Monitored in the cloud

The BOS Power remote monitoring system for ship motors facilitates maintenance and repairs. This system was part of the supply to the Siem Aimery.

“All vital data is uploaded to the cloud, to which selected staff have access. You can immediately see what is happening in the various parts of the motors by studying the data,” he explains.

The system also prevents damage and facilitates maintenance.

“Shipping companies save on maintenance costs by being aware of what is happening. We provide a tool that allows ships to forestall unnecessary wear by continuous monitoring,” he says.

Big contracts

The Siem Aimery and the Siem Moxie are very advanced ships that are designed to operate under difficult weather conditions. They are specially built for the installation and repair of high-voltage cables for offshore wind farms.
